Why Sparrow?
Discover how Sparrow Academy seeks to reimagine an education environment where learning and healing meet.
Student-Centered Instruction
Sparrow Academy’s unique approach to academic growth seeks to create individualized learning experiences.
We support and nurture students of many different backgrounds while seeking to meet the unique needs of each student.
Emotional Safety & Support
Sparrow Academy takes a compassionate and relational approach to education in order to create a place of safety and emotional regulation.
This ensures a learning environment that best supports a student’s academic and personal development.
Design for Growth + Learning
The mission of Sparrow Academy is to approach the whole child in a compassionate, safe, progressive learning environment, where all students are able to reach their maximum potential.
Individualized Learning Opportunities
Some students most benefit from the individualized attention that is offered in a smaller classroom.
With smaller class sizes, teachers can diagnose and track student learning and differentiate instruction in response to student needs. This provides increased participation and better communication as each student is able to receive the attention they need from their teacher, and are less likely to hide or become left behind in their educational development. Classes at Sparrow Academy are intentionally geared towards a smaller, more cohesive unit with class sizes no larger than 12 students.
Neurodiversity
Sparrow Academy recognizes that both brain function and behavioral traits are simply indicators of how diverse the human population is.
Neurodiversity shows us that each student has an individual and unique way of processing information. This may be differences in social preferences, ways of learning, ways of communicating, and/or ways of perceiving the environment. Our culture, curriculum, and faculty seek to guide students towards a deeper understanding of individualized brain function and self regulation.
Trauma Care
At Sparrow Academy, we consider how trauma, in varying degrees, impacts learning and behavior.
Traumatic experiences can slow down or completely stop a student’s ability to learn. Students who have experienced trauma benefit from spaces that ensure physical and emotional safety. Our trauma-informed faculty understand how trauma can affect students and are trained to recognize and respond to the signs of trauma. Classroom structures are created to empower students with a sense of control over their lives and provide emotional safety.
Learning & Developmental Support
Students may experience a wide range of challenges that can affect their ability to receive, process, store, and respond to what they see and hear.
These limitations can show up in many ways such as specific difficulties with spoken and written language, coordination, self-control, or attention, which can impede learning to read, write, or do math. Instructors at Sparrow Academy develop individualized learning plans to meet the specific needs of any student with educational challenges.
